Hovels allow for more people to come to your village. like mentioned above, they produce more iron when they are closer to the stockpile. If you have multiple villages, you can only share food by trading. The closer your farms are to the granary, the more food they will produce. Other things that you should include are farms, iron mines and hovels. Stone Quarries can only be placed over stone, and like the Woodcutter's Huts, you want them as close to your stockpile as possible, so as to get as much stone out of your building as you can. To acquire stone, you need to build a Stone Quarry. As you can see, the closer it is to where its product is stored (in the Woodcutter's Hut's case, the Stockpile), the more it will yield. How much of its product a building will yield appears over its image as you are choosing a building location. Woodcutter's Huts can only be placed along the edge of the forest, and you want it as close to your stockpile as possible, so as to get the most wood out of your building as you can. To acquire wood, you need to build Woodcutter's Huts. If your village is new, you can only acquire wood and stone at this point. Your Stockpile is where you keep your resources. Eventually, you may have to delete some buildings to make room for new buildings. As you can see, there is not a lot of space to work with and you should keep that in mind when you begin to place buildings. When you begin the game, your village comes equipped with one Stockpile, one Granary and one Village Hall.
